Understanding sound.
We live in a sound affected world. Whether you live under the flight path, live near a major road or have noisy neighbours, we as architects need to understand the principles of managing noise levels.
There is impact noise, airborne sound and other factors coming into play when designing or upgrading a building. Our statutory regulations recognise the importance of sound control with specific requirements listed in the National Construction Code.
Desmond Raymond will explore the issues around managing sound with specific references to means and methods as well as use of specific design principles for managing unwanted components of sound penetration.
While sound is very important in multi storey residential work, understanding of sound management would benefit all architects.
